The central building of a large concent, supporting the works of a great clock and including a large space for conducting the auts, musical rituals that mark both daily and extraordinary events in the community. The mynster at the Concent of Saunt Edhar exhibits 4-fold symmetry, and is similar in structure to a gothic cathedral.

Note that the English cognate "minster," meaning church, derives from the Latin monasterium (monastery).
