Sconics was a school of philosophy that addressed the ramifications of people only interacting with their perceptions of the world rather than the world itself. It was named for the scones they ate while having tea at the home of Lady Baritoe.

The name is a pun on stoics, a real-world school of philosophy named for stoa, the greek word for "porch", where early philosophers met.
