So I'm trying to understand exactly why the maths were Sacked. It sounds like it's a simple case of praxis run amok. Additionally, during the Convox, the discussion at messaler led me to believe that it was the actions of the millenarians that caused the Geometers show up. So, I'm just thinking out loud here, but the message I'm hearing is that if you're not careful with your leet powers, then the cops will bust down your door and shut you down. I haven't quite finished the book yet, but I'm thinking that the same powers will be used to defeat the hostile alien factions and the maths will admit they messed up and allow for more transparency. Either that or something really weird like Raz and his cronies will travel in the ship further up the Wick to the ultimate HTW.

- Hi, Ira. There also seems to be a strong taboo in place against directly discussing the circumstances of the Third Sack in particular, but to a lesser extent to all Great Sacks, especially in a way that suggests that the Avout were to blame for bringing them about.
- In a nutshell, the Reconstitution occurred - that is, the Avout were forcibly sequestered in concents - due to the belief at the time of the Terrible Events that those capable of theoric work had been responsible for the catastrophe.
- The First Sack occurred when advances in nucleosynthesis made the Saecular population afraid of the Avout. The same thing, caused by new plants created by genetic engineering, triggered the Second Sack.
- The Third Sack is the most pivotal to the plot, as it was brought about through Avout experiments in Polycosmic Manipulation, giving rise to the legends of Rhetors and Incanters which remained staples of popular entertainment (as well as lingering suspicion of Avout) in Erasmas' time.
